Who Am I?
I am a professionally qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. My approach to therapy is Client-Directed Outcome-Informed, with a foundation in Existential, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. This gives me a strong theoretical model to work from whilst remaining flexible to suit your needs.
I originally studied Philosophy, which deepened my understanding of the basic aspects of existence, that is, freedom, responsibility, death, isolation, and ethics. I then trained at Person-Centred Counselling Services, originally established by Pete Sanders, a leading proponent of Person-Centred Therapy. This training institution adheres to the philosophy of Carl Rogers' Person-Centred Approach, which emphasises your experience and the client-therapist relationship; it is particularly suited for exploring and bringing difficult aspects of your experience into awareness. I have undergone further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies at Warwick University, which is considered most helpful for specific and goal-oriented work (e.g. phobias).
I receive regular supervision and I am committed to my on-going personal development. In my own time, outside of your sessions, I work hard to maintain my ability to be present and helpful towards you and your therapeutic process. I have experience working for the NHS (current employment), Face to Face Counselling Service, Hearing Voices Network, Family and Child Therapies, Youth Offending Team, and other mental health organisations.
